Four Season Retreat
Blanc & Bailey Construction was brought in to completely reimagine this four-season second home on Crescent Lake in New Hampshire, transforming both the interior and exterior into a cohesive, high-performing retreat designed for family gatherings, durability, and seamless connection to its lakeside setting. The homeowners envisioned a space that could comfortably support heavy use, large groups, and year-round enjoyment while feeling intentional, timeless, and deeply connected to the surrounding environment. What began as a dated, compartmentalized interior and an uneven, overgrown exterior evolved into a fully integrated home and landscape that functions as a true family destination.
At the heart of the interior renovation is the kitchen, which originally felt closed off, outdated, and disconnected from the home’s stunning views and open-concept great room. Blanc & Bailey flattened the existing layout and started over entirely, creating a kitchen that now anchors the home both visually and functionally. The fully customized space features inset shaker cabinetry with soft-close hardware, constructed from solid plywood for long-term durability. A two-tone palette of crisp white upper cabinets and rich gray lower cabinets and island bases adds depth, contrast, and visual balance, while maximizing storage through oversized pantry cabinetry and thoughtfully utilized island storage accessible from multiple sides.
A custom-fabricated wood range hood serves as a central focal point, framed symmetrically by illuminated upper cabinets that enhance both form and function. Interior and upper cabinet lighting brings warmth and clarity to the workspace, contributing to the refined, high-end feel of the kitchen. Quartz countertops flow seamlessly into a full-height quartz backsplash, creating a clean, cohesive surface that balances elegance with practicality. The expansive gray island provides generous prep space, casual seating, and discreet storage, making it ideal for everyday living and entertaining. An undermount sink positioned in the island faces the living area, allowing the homeowners to remain engaged with family, enjoy the fireplace, or take in lake views while cooking—an intentional design choice rooted in togetherness.
Lighting was a critical component of the kitchen’s success. Recessed lighting was installed throughout the space to provide even, functional illumination that complements the abundant natural light pouring in through expansive windows. The kitchen lighting integrates seamlessly with the statement fixtures in the adjacent living and dining areas, including a bold chandelier over the sitting area and modern fixtures above the dining table. Together, these elements unify the open-concept layout and reinforce the kitchen’s role as the central gathering hub of the home. Hardwood flooring, a vaulted wood-paneled ceiling, and a stone fireplace with built-in cabinetry further tie the kitchen to the surrounding great room, creating a harmonious, intentional flow throughout the interior.
Beyond the walls of the home, Blanc & Bailey Construction undertook a complete transformation of the property’s exterior landscape, converting an uneven, overgrown, and largely unusable site into a beautifully structured and fully integrated outdoor environment. The project began with full excavation and leveling to reshape the natural grade, improving drainage, usability, and movement between outdoor spaces. Working within the natural contours of the New Hampshire terrain, the team created a cohesive hardscape system anchored by expansive bluestone patios and walkways that wrap around the home and extend toward the lake. These durable, elegant surfaces create seamless transitions from interior living spaces to outdoor gathering areas, the gazebo, and the waterfront.
At the front entry, stone pillars were installed to reflect the region’s architectural character and provide a timeless, welcoming presence. The driveway—previously dirt and impractical for seasonal use—was completely rebuilt and paved, featuring a striking paver circle that serves as both a functional turnaround and a visual focal point. Paver-lined garden beds soften the hardscape and define the property’s edges, while selective clearing of overgrown vegetation opened views and highlighted the site’s natural beauty. Mature perimeter trees were preserved to maintain privacy and create a dramatic natural backdrop.
The lakeside gazebo was fully renovated and visually tied into the overall landscape through matching bluestone surfaces and complementary trim finishes. Positioned along the water’s edge, the gazebo now functions as a peaceful retreat and a key outdoor entertaining space. To ensure long-term success, the entire property was carefully graded, seeded, planted, and fully irrigated, supporting healthy growth while minimizing maintenance demands. From the sweeping lawn leading to the shoreline to the thoughtfully connected patios and walkways, every exterior detail was executed with durability, beauty, and cohesion in mind.
Together, the interior renovation and exterior transformation resulted in a home that feels intentional, timeless, and deeply connected to its lakeside setting. What was once a restrictive interior and raw, uneven landscape is now a highly functional, family-friendly retreat designed for both quiet moments and lively gatherings throughout all four seasons. This project exemplifies Blanc & Bailey Construction’s commitment to craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and the creation of meaningful spaces that enhance how families live, gather, and connect—both indoors and out.
