Master Suite Transformation
This late-1800s home had been partially remodelled over the years, resulting in a disjointed layout and an aging rear in-law apartment that no longer suited the clients’ needs. The homeowners envisioned a true master suite overlooking the beautiful Black River, along with a cohesive modernization of the home’s structure, exterior, and key living spaces. To achieve this, Blanc & Bailey Construction took a comprehensive approach that combined historic sensitivity with major structural upgrades and high-end interior renovations.
The project required significant exterior reconstruction, beginning with the removal of the entire back portion of the home. Years of wear and structural deficiencies meant that the foundation and framing could no longer be salvaged. Blanc & Bailey demolished the compromised structure, rebuilt the foundation, and constructed a new, fully integrated rear addition that now houses the master suite. The entire exterior of the home received new James Hardie siding, embellished trim work, and a standing seam metal roof, blending long-lasting materials with a historic New England aesthetic. To maintain visual consistency with the rest of the home, large Pella glass sliding doors were installed off the master suite, matched precisely to the profiles of the existing windows and door systems. These doors now frame sweeping backyard views of the Black River and fill the suite with natural light.
Inside, the team stripped the former in-law apartment to the studs and rebuilt it as a spacious, modern master suite that meets every functional and comfort expectation of the homeowners. The layout includes a large bedroom with pony-wall–defined zones, and a walk-in closet crafted with custom built-in cabinetry. New electrical systems, fixtures, outlets, and lighting were installed throughout the suite, along with a handcrafted island to increase storage and organization. A new laundry room was also added directly off the master suite for everyday convenience, and the entryway was refreshed for space and efficiency.
One of the most dramatic transformations took place in the kitchen. Blanc & Bailey completely gutted the space and rebuilt it with high-end smart appliances, including a Bosch induction cooktop and double wall ovens. The counter height was raised to 40 inches, a custom accommodation at the request of homeowners. Slab-style cabinetry and lift-up upper cabinets create a clean, modern look, while a baby-blue accent peninsula provides color and visual interest. Quartz countertops wrap the kitchen, and a porcelain tile backsplash adds texture. Floating shelves, new pendant lighting, and a farmhouse-style undermount sink elevate both style and functionality.
Every element of the transformative renovation contributes to a cohesive, contemporary reimagining of the home while respecting its history. From structural rebuilds and exterior modernization to the creation of a serene riverfront master suite and a high-performance kitchen, this project represents a complete reinvention of a previously segmented, aging home. Blanc & Bailey’s craftsmanship, problem-solving, and attention to detail resulted in a truly dramatic whole-house transformation.
The master bathroom was re-envisioned as a true spa-level retreat, completely restructured into a luxurious, fully tiled wet room featuring a modern freestanding tub and dual shower systems. Previously confined and dated, the layout was stripped to its substructure to allow for a complete redesign. The result is an open-concept wet room that feels expansive, clean, and serene, while delivering exceptional functionality.
The centerpiece of the space is the sculptural Badeloft freestanding stone-resin bathtub, positioned to anchor the wet room visually and offer a tranquil bathing experience. Surrounding it is an expansive shower area equipped with dual shower heads – each with its own dedicated built-in niche – plus a third niche positioned for convenient access from the tub. The openness of the room is emphasized by custom glass panels that maintain the wet room concept without the need for a door, allowing unobstructed sightlines and maximizing spatial flow.
Large-format porcelain tiles wrap the walls, creating a modern, seamless aesthetic, while mosaic grey floor tiles add subtle texture underfoot and improve drainage. The shower and main bathroom zones are unified by radiant heat flooring throughout, ensuring warmth and comfort year-round. Carefully placed recessed lighting illuminates the entire space evenly, while modern fixtures provide functional task lighting at the floating double-vanity. Quartz thresholds frame transitions flawlessly, contributing to the clean detailing and water-tight integrity of the space.
Beyond the wet room, the adjoining vanity area features a modern floating wood vanity with deep drawers, sleek hardware, dual mirrors, and contemporary lighting. The material palette leans into organic simplicity—natural wood tones, matte porcelain tile, and crisp white quartz – creating a warm balance against the bold charcoal tones of the wet room tile.
This bathroom renovation exemplifies the category’s intent: a high-performance, beautifully executed custom transformation that elevates daily living. Through its open wet room layout, luxury fixtures, radiant heat system, and thoughtful tilework, Blanc & Bailey delivered a spa-quality bathroom that reflects both modern design principles and exceptional craftsmanship.
